After graduating from AFMC, joined Central Health Service (CHS) Govt. of India in 1972. Completed MD (HA) and DNB during service. Awarded Colombo Plan Fellowship to undergo one year diploma in health services administration (DHSA) at Nuffield institute, university of Leeds (UK) 1981-82.
After a brief stint Worked as medical officer in ESIC, CGHS worked as Assistant Medical Superintendent, Safdarjung Hospital. From 1981-96 worked as senior faculty in department of Medical Care and Hospital Administration at NIHFW. Subsequently, as Professor and Director, School of Health Sciences, IGNOU pioneered the planning, development and launch of about a dozen post-graduate diploma and degree programs through distance learning for doctors and nurses. Some notable programs are PG Diploma in Clinical Cardiology, Dialysis Medicine, HealthCare Waste Management, Rural Surgery and Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing. Currently working as Contractual faculty, International Institute of Health Management Research (IIHMR), New Delhi. Visited more than 35 countries on various short term and long term assignment of IGNOU, WHO, UNDP and Govt. of India. More than 40 publications and 3 books including a chapter in WHO Geneva’s Blue Book (2nd Edition) on Health Care Waste Management. Visiting teacher to Andrija Stamper School of Public Health, Zagreb, Croatia, 1988-1990.
