Hospital Administration and Management is a complex issue within the healthcare services. Rising demand from the public, fast changing technology, lack of resources and concern for quality in hospitals, needs appropriate training for the functionaries working at various levels. They need to know their role in planning, organizing, delegating, motivating and team work. Doctors and Hospital Managers are in an assortment of roles who have to take up management responsibilities at all levels. They are also responsible for managing budgets, allocation of resources; developing Standard Operating Procedures and making management decisions. These roles require knowledge, competence and managerial skills in order to facilitate and lead in an effective and efficient manner.
“The prolonged COVID-19 outbreaks can lead to rampant spread of disease resulting in growing demands in hospital services. The emerging situations may further lead to potentially overwhelming situation and that could challenge the capability of hospitals”. It could be more explicit to the pandemic situation, focus of the discussion should be on challenges, issues and solution during/after the COVID-19 and how it has destabilized the hospital management systems. Otherwise in a normal scenario all are managing hospitals efficiently. This is an unusual case, the institute may offer specialized knowledge and expertise in “management of during/post pandemic situation”, the programme can boost demand only if it promises to offers something pertinent and practical management strategies in the time of COVID-19.
Keeping in view the COVID-19 pandemic and the fact that it is going to stay for a long time, the hospitals are under pressure to ensure appropriate medical services to the COVID-19 as well as the non-COVID-19 patients. There is need for rationalization of resources to meet service requirement and to provide satisfactory services.
Dealing with the pandemic also needs to ensure appropriate mindset of working staff, provision of adequate PPE, continued supply of materials, ensuring motivation amongst worker’s, infection control and appropriate management of biomedical and general waste. Thus the change in the circumstances, as of today requires to know about the change management due to COVID-19 to ensure efficient hospital management.
