The program is designed to train and skill scholars with good academic background, strong motivation, discipline and keen in conducting good quality research in healthcare management. The candidates should be highly motivated to pursue research or teaching career in academia. Excellent written and verbal communication are a must. 


The candidates for the programme must have one of the following qualifications obtained from any of the universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India, or other educational institutions established by an act of parliament or declared to be deemed as a university under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India, or an equivalent qualification from an institution approved by AICTE. The degrees of candidates from foreign universities must be recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). 


PGDM from Indian Institutions must be recognized as equivalent to MBA by AIU and approved by AICTE

Master’s degree or its equivalent in any Health and allied discipline with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks (Relaxation of 5% is given to SC/ST candidates)


Five-year Integrated Master’s degree in any discipline, with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks (Relaxation of 5% is given to SC/ST candidates) or equivalent grade point average, obtained after completing the higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent.                                     


Four Year/Eight Semester M.B.B.S/  Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and Information Technology (B.E./B.Tech.) / M.D.S with a minimum of 60% marks  (Relaxation of 5% is given to SC/ST candidates) or equivalent grade point. 

2 years of working experience in relevant sectors.

Those appearing for their final examination in the respective discipline can also apply. Such students if selected shall be provisionally admitted provided they complete all requirements in obtaining their master’s degree before 30th September of the year of admission. The deadline for submitting the final year mark sheet is 31st December of the year of admission to FPM.

Candidates will be assessed based on outstanding intellectual ability, motivation, faculty recommendations and personal characteristics required for an international academic career. There is no requirement concerning fields of study at the undergraduate level, but standard postgraduate entry tests (GMAT / GRE / CAT / JRF) will be used to assess general ability and, if necessary, proficiency in English. If the candidate has not appeared for the above-mentioned exams, he/ she should compulsorily attend the Fellowship Program Evaluation Test (FPET) that will be conducted by IIHMR.

The Fellowship is open to transgender candidates also.

Age Limit

There is no age restriction.

Admission Procedure

Start of the Session

Admission to the Fellow Programme shall normally be made once a year in the month of June, coinciding with that of AICTE approved Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Healthcare) conducted by the Institute. 


Application Procedure

Advertisements for the program will be made one to three months prior to start of the new session. Advertisements will be made available through print and social media. The application shall be made in the prescribed form available with the Institution and available in the website. Attested copies of all the necessary certificates and testimonials are to be attached with the applications.

The candidate must submit an abstract of about 5000 words on the area of research interest and names of two people who can provide an academic reference with the application. One academic and one relevant professional reference may be acceptable.

Selection Criteria

The following criteria approved by AICTE will be followed for selection of Fellowship program

  •     Academic qualifications and work experience
  •    A valid test score in postgraduate entry tests (GMAT / GRE / CAT / JRF)  OR in Fellowship Program                  Evaluation Test (FPET) that will be conducted by IIHMR
  •    Tentative research abstract and its presentation before the Selection Committee
  •     Personal interview

The decision of the Institution Fellowship Selection Committee (FPSC) regarding admission shall be final.

Communication shall be sent only to the selected candidates. The Institution shall not entertain any queries or correspondence in respect of those not selected.

FPSC will be constituted by the Institute and will comprise of the Director, FPM Course Director, Faculty Experts in specialization and Industry experts. 

Duration of the Program

A candidate shall submit his/ her thesis only after a minimum period of two and half years after registration. However, the maximum period allowed for the submission of the thesis is five years from the date of admission to the Programme. A six month extension beyond the aforesaid maximum period of 5 years can be considered at extreme cases.

If the candidate cannot submit the thesis within stipulated time due to reasons beyond control, he/she can apply for re-registration. If the candidate is allowed to re-register, it can be allowed only once and that too for a maximum period of two years only. Additionally, it is mandatory for the candidates to fulfil the pre-requisites of course work, synopsis submission, seminars and paper publications (details provided in the brochure) before submission of the final thesis.

If the candidate takes any break or absence without approval before registration, it shall lead to the cancellation of admission. Leave of absence taken after approval shall not be counted for the minimum period of 2 years stipulated for submission of Thesis but shall be counted in the maximum period of 5 years permissible for submission of the Thesis.

The candidate will be required to make visits to the campus for completing the course work that will be conducted mostly during weekends, for comprehensive evaluation and to get experience as Training Assistant for a course work. The course work will be a combination of both offline and online lectures.
